One of the exit routes for the 24-hour parade of tractor trailers laden with debris. The sidewalks are an ever-shifting network of traffic cones, barriers, temporary asphalt patches, boards and metal plates laid over excavation trenches. There is a constant stream of tourists, and construction workers, flagmen and police are everywhere. The work is slow and deliberate, and the materials, especially the shoring materials used for the open trenches and the temporary pedestrian walkways are heavy-duty and carefully used.
